Matt has contributed to industry work including representation for industry bodies and the development of guidance and standards. As well as being Past chairman of the Legionella Control Association and current Manager (part time), he is also a Member of the British Chemical Association water treatment group and a BSI committee member. Matt teaches for the Water Management Society and the Apprenticeship programme. 

Matt is a contributor to HSG274 and ACOP L8 2013, and to BS 8580-1:2019 Risk Assessments for Legionella Control, BS8680:2020 Water Safety Planning, BS7592:2022 Sampling for Legionella bacteria in water systems, BS 8580-2:2022 Risk assessments for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other waterborne pathogens and BS7592-2 (drafting 2024) Sampling for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other waterborne pathogens.

He was also part of the writing group for the WMSoc guidance on use of remote monitoring parts 1 and 2.
