Infersens joins Wave to offer first-of-its-kind water-saving technology trial

Infersens have partnered with award-winning, national water retailer, Wave to revolutionise Legionella Risk Management (LRM) and cut water waste around the UK.

The overall goal is to support businesses in lowering their water usage and utility bills while also encouraging sustainable practices and improved Legionella Risk Management.

The two companies intend to do this using a first-of-its-kind water-saving technology trial, which has been funded via the Market Improvement Fund administered by MOSL.

The challenge

Data gathered by Wave indicates that around 3.2 million businesses and public sector organisations across the UK manually check temperature readings each month and flush taps and systems weekly (and sometimes more often) to help prevent Legionella occuring.

Unfortunately, this approach uses a significant amount of water, oftentimes in locations where it is completely unnecessary.

In fact, data from Infersens suggests that LRM activities across the UK could account for up to 8% of total non-household (NHH) water consumption.

However, the company’s remote temperature and water flow sensors could be the key to reducing this water waste.

Infersens Cortense technology

Infersens have developed a non-invasive wireless sensor that combines ultra low-power sensing technology with an innovative hardware design in order to monitor both water flow and temperature reliably and efficiently.

This is an industry-first tool that provides water flow and temperature data 24/7, wherever the remote sensors are deployed.

The temperature and flow sensors enable businesses to monitor water in building pipework to identify outlets that have not been used and therefore where stagnation may lead to the growth of harmful Legionella bacteria..

The trial

The trial will see Infersens’ Cortense retrofitted onto all participants’ pipework for a series of three-month trials. During this time, they will have access to the data recorded by these state-of-the-art wireless sensors, for free.

The whole programme will take place with around 40 non-household water users over an 18-month period. The idea is to stagger the different trials in a series of cohorts, based on how they use water within their business, focusing on universities, hotels, government buildings and commercial real estate for example.

Do you want to take part?

If you’d like to be part of this revolutionary trial to help you reduce water wastage, save money and effectively manage Legionella risks on your premises, it’s not too late.

The trial requires organisations of all sizes and you’ll receive:

  • Infersens state-of-the-art wireless sensors for free for the first three months

  • Free installation

  • Actionable data, alerts and reports

  • Support and regular communication

  • The opportunity to improve your Legionella Risk Management strategy
