Cortense® FAQ’s
Please note that Cortense is for UK and EU use only
1. What is included in the Infersens Remote Monitoring Bundle (Starter Pack 2, 5 or 10)?
Our bundle includes everything you need to start monitoring water flow and temperatures effectively:
2, 5 or 10 x Cortense Sensors (depending on the size of Starter Pack selected)
1 x LoRaWAN Gateway
12-month access to the Infersens dashboard
This package provides an easy and cost-effective way to improve compliance, reduce risks and enhance water safety management.
2. Why are we offering this as a small bundle?
We designed these starter bundles to make it easier for businesses to trial our technology with minimal investment. Whether you’re a small business, a duty holder exploring compliance solutions or a facilities manager looking to upgrade monitoring processes, this package provides an affordable, scalable entry point into smart water monitoring.
3. Who is this bundle best suited for?
This bundle is ideal for:
Duty holders and facility managers who need a cost-effective compliance solution
Small businesses looking for an easy-to-implement water safety monitoring system
Larger organisations who want to trial the technology before a full-scale deployment
4. How does the system work?
Our Cortense® sensors continuously monitor water temperatures and water flow before wirelessly transmitting data to the gateway. The gateway securely sends this information to our cloud-based dashboard, where users can:
View daily flow duration, flow events and temperature data per sensor
View summarised weekly and monthly flow and temperature reports for each sensor
Generate bespoke time-period reports (minimum daily)
Data is refreshed daily and available up to the day before
Generate reports to support compliance with HSE ACoP L8 and HSG274 guidance
5. Why is monitoring water flow and temperature important?
Legionella bacteria can grow in water systems between 20°C and 45°C, especially where there is a risk of stagnation. Pre-emptive flushing of outlets considered at risk of stagnation (little-used outlets) and temperature control are the main methods for Legionella risk management. By using frequent water flow (e.g. usage) and temperature monitoring, you can:
Ensure your water remains outside risk zones
Improve compliance with health and safety regulations
Reduce the need for frequent flushing and manual checks
Prevent costly outbreaks or non-compliance fines
6. What are the key compliance requirements for Legionella risk management?
Businesses in the UK must comply with regulations, including :
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - Ensuring employee and public safety
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 - Mandating risk assessments
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 - Requiring Legionella risk management
These are summarised by the HSE here:
https://www.hse.gov.uk/legionnaires/what-you-must-do/index.htm
Our system helps you meet these obligations by providing automated, 24/7 monitoring and record-keeping.
7. How easy is it to install the sensors?
Installation is quick and tool-free:
Attach the sensor onto the pipe (15mm or 22mm clean, copper pipe) near the outlet you want to monitor, using the band provided.
Power up the gateway and ensure it's within range of the sensors.
Log in to the Infersens dashboard to set up your sensors and start viewing data from the next day
This simple process allows anyone to set up the system in minutes - no specialist knowledge required.
An installation guide can be found here.
8. What are the benefits of using the Infersens Remote Monitoring Bundle (Starter Packs 2, 5 or 10)?
